Key points for the installation and operation of harmonic drives include centering the transmission center axis, avoiding external loads, and lubrication maintenance.

Harmonic drive comprises a base with a cavity for accommodating the flexspline internally. Its distinguishing feature lies in the flexspline, consisting of a toothed cylindrical portion and an annular support portion positioned externally to the cylindrical part. The support portion externally features an annular fixing component with threaded holes. Additionally, the harmonic drive includes bolts passing through the base from the outside, securing onto the threaded holes of the fixing component along the flexspline axis.

Three Key Points to Note in Operating Harmonic Drive:

Firstly, during installation, ensure the alignment of the transmission center axis, with an error not exceeding the compensation of the coupling. This practice prolongs the service life and achieves optimal transmission efficiency.

Secondly, when installing transmission components on the output shaft, refrain from hammering. Typically, assembly fixtures and bolts are used to press the transmission components into the internal threads of the harmonic drive’s end. Otherwise, internal components of the harmonic drive might be damaged. Improper installation of steel fixed couplings may cause unnecessary external loads, leading to premature bearing damage or even output shaft fracture.

Thirdly, adhere to specified installation procedures to ensure easy access for personnel to oil level indicators, vent plugs, and drain plugs. After installation, thoroughly inspect the accuracy of the installation positions and the reliability of fasteners in sequence. The assembly should rotate flexibly post-installation. Harmonic drives adopt splash lubrication from an oil reservoir. Before operation, users need to remove the screw plug from the vent hole and replace it with a vent plug. Depending on the installation position, open the oil level plug screw to check the height of the oil level line, filling lubricant until it overflows from the oil level plug hole. After confirming the correct tightening of the oil level plug, conduct a no-load trial run for a minimum of 2 hours. Operation should be smooth, without impact, vibration, noise, or oil leakage. Any anomalies should be promptly rectified. After a certain period, check the oil level to prevent shell leakage. If the ambient temperature is too high or too low, consider changing the brand of lubricating oil.
