Harmonic reducer plays an important role in the production of many factories. Due to its small size, light weight and high deceleration effect, it is adopted by many factories.

Harmonic drive is a type of high-precision and high-efficiency mechanical transmission device, typically used for high-precision and high-torque output in industrial applications. This reducer converts motion on the input shaft to motion on the output shaft, featuring characteristics such as simple structure, high transmission efficiency, and high precision, making it widely applied in mechanical transmission systems.

Due to its small size, light weight, and high-precision reduction effect, harmonic drives are extensively utilized in various mechanical equipment manufacturing. However, prolonged usage may lead to issues such as overheating.

I. Reasons for Harmonic Drive Overheating:

  1. Overheating during usage may be caused by eccentric bearing issues.
  2. Lubrication oil problems, such as insufficient lubrication oil, can also lead to overheating.

II. Methods to Address Harmonic Drive Overheating:

  1. When overheating is observed, first check the lubrication oil to ensure sufficient lubrication for the machine. If the oil is insufficient or dried up, add lubrication oil appropriately.
  2. If the temperature remains high even after adding lubrication oil, inspect the operating time of the machine. Overheating after overloaded operation is a normal phenomenon. In this case, simply shut down the machine for a period of time.
  3. Confirm whether the installation of the harmonic drive and the machine is appropriate, as improper installation can also cause overheating. This issue requires certain technical expertise; if unclear, consider seeking assistance from the harmonic drive manufacturer for inspection.
  4. Solutions for Harmonic Drive Bearing Overheating:
    • Damaged eccentric bearings: Replace with high-precision bearings.
    • Bent main shaft or misaligned housing holes: Repair the main shaft or adjust the housing to the correct position.
    • Overly tight belts: Adjust the tension of the belts to avoid excessive tension.
    • Lubrication oil issues: Select the correct brand and model of lubrication oil, and clean and replace it regularly.
    • Assembly quality issues: Improve the quality of the assembly process to ensure each part is installed correctly.
    • Running track of bearings: Replace with new bearings and worn components.
    • Excessive axial force: Adjust the seal clearance to maintain 0.2 to 0.3mm and check the static balance value.
    • Bearing damage: Promptly replace damaged bearings.

III. Solutions to Harmonic Drive Overheating Issues:

Optimize lubrication oil and sealing structure. Good lubrication can reduce wear and friction, while an optimized sealing structure can better prevent external impurities from entering the reducer, reducing friction and wear.

Adjust transmission ratio. Properly adjusting the transmission ratio can reduce unnecessary loads and lower the operating temperature of the harmonic drive.

Improve work efficiency. High-efficiency harmonic drives reduce energy loss during operation, thereby alleviating overheating issues.

Harmonic drives, as high-performance mechanical transmission devices, inevitably face challenges. If overheating occurs, the above methods can be adopted for resolution. Only by promptly addressing these issues can the advantages of harmonic drives be better utilized, improving their service life and performance.
